Individual Counseling

Individual counseling is a process of self-exploration and understanding. The purpose is to provide you with a safe, non-judgmental environment where you can explore and understand the various aspects of your life which have held you back or caused trauma and pain.

Together we will explore these difficult issues and begin your journey to healing. You will grow and learn how to build new and healthier relationships.

The length of therapy will vary depending on the issues brought forth during treatment. Many people decide to come weekly in the beginning and then move to bi-weekly, monthly or even quarterly sessions. Each week you will leave with something tangible to work on between sessions. Once you have achieved the goals you came to treatment for, you will graduate from therapy.

Couples/Family Counseling

Couples counseling is based on a variety of modalities and techniques that help partners work through their relationship issues. The main objective of therapy is to identify existing issues and/or prevent potential issues in a relationship.

Couples therapy includes the following general elements:

  • Evaluating the relationship
  • Targeting and focusing on a specific problem
  • Finding solutions, implementing changes
  • Establishing relationship goals

During sessions, couples will gain a better understand of their relationship dynamics and roles. Armed with newfound awareness, couples will be equipped with practical strategies tailored to their specific needs. These strategies serve as guides to navigate and counteract dysfunctional relationship patterns, fostering healthier communication, deeper connection, and sustainable growth.

Changing behaviors, improving communication, developing conflict resolution skills, rebuilding trust in a relationship, and rekindling intimacy are typical issues addressed during sessions.

Other topics include: parenting, infidelity (emotional infidelity or any other type), health issues, addictions, disrespect in a relationship, infertility, emotional unavailability, sexual frustration, etc.

Couples therapy requires both partners to be active participants throughout the process. The primary goal is to achieve the best outcome for the relationship and to give couples the tools necessary to navigate life together as a team.

Is Couples Therapy Worth the Time and Money?

Health Benefits

Research has shown that couples who are disconnected, defensive, shut each other out and criticize each other have weaker immune systems, higher instance of illness, higher stress levels, and other indicators of early mortality. While on the other hand, couples who are in stable, healthy relationships have an 8-10 year longer lifespan.

Benefits for Children

Having a healthy relationship with your partner has a significant effect on your children’s health and success in school and all areas of their lives. Children who experience the safety of a loving home are more likely to have healthy relationships as they move throughout their lives.

The single greatest predictor of low outcomes for children is parental conflict.

Cost of Divorce

Couples therapy in an investment it can become expensive, but it is far less expensive than a divorce, which comes with not only a physical but emotional price tag for all members of the family.

Blended Family Counseling

Blended families are quickly becoming the dominant family structure in the US. I can assist families and individuals in navigating the minefield of issues in this complex arena.

Common issues may include:

  • Conflict in the marital relationship as it relates to the structure and expectations of roles
  • Parental Alienation
  • Jealousy
  • Stepparent interactions with stepchildren

  • Feelings and boundaries for step parents who do not have biological children

Blended families have a unique set of dynamics. I understand these and can provide guidance and support to address your family’s struggles.

Co-parenting Counseling

The legal system and the pain of separation places parents in a you vs. them mentality.

Judges expect parents to work collaboratively in the process. This is difficult, especially in the beginning stages.

This is helpful for those who would like to coparent but don’t have the tools and skills necessary to navigate the process. It establishes a collaborative course of action which minimizes the emotional and financial impact to the family system.
